The Haworth Volunteer Fire Department held a Regular Monthly Meeting on Tuesday, May 5, 1998 at the Haworth Fire Department. Meeting was called to order at 6:32 p.m. by Middleton. Members present were: Storey, White, Wilcox, Hall, Farley, Middleton, and Batson.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read. White moved to accept. Hall seconded. All members were in favor. Minutes approved.
Storey reported that the Department had an incomes of $1,185.00 from the fundraiser (Ruger rifle give-away). There were no expenses noted. The Department’s current Balance is $3,853.57. Hall moved to accept the financial report. White seconded. All members in favor. Financial report approved.
Storey reported that a total of $1,650.00 had been raised in the recent fundraiser (Ruger Rifle give-away). In addition to this amount, Lindsey Communications still owed $25.00 for tickets purchased over the telephone. Storey also reported that Tom Porton was the winner of the rifle.
Old Business: Middleton reported that the oil had been changed in all pumpers and the grass truck.
Storey reported that he had received an offer of $275.00 for the dual-band Yaesu handheld radio the Department was seeking to sell. Wilcox moved to accept the offer. Middleton seconded. All members in favor. Motion carried. Middleton moved that if this offer falls through, that Storey get whatever amount possible for the radio and to sell it. Hall seconded. All members in favor. Motion carried.
Storey reported that Southwestern Bell had declined to provide any grants to the Department. A grant is still pending with Weyerhaeuser Company. Hall suggested approaching Georgia-Pacific about appllying for a grant from their foundation.
New Business: Middleton reported that he wanted to conduct a Fire Drill on May 9, at 1:00 p.m. Hall requested that the drill involve burning an old, delapidated building on his property. Middleton agreed and directed Storey to prepare the consent form.
Storey reported that the annual Fire Prevention Week had been designated as October 4-10 by the National Fire Prevention Association. The theme will be “Fire Drills: The Great Escape.”
An application for membership was received of Justin Wilcox. Issue was tabled until June meeting. Ronnie Wilcox reported that Darren Beason had also expressed an interest in joining the Department.
Middleton moved to adjourn. White seconded. All members in favor. Meeting adjourned at 6:59 p.m.
