Minutes of Regular Monthly Meeting
of the
Haworth Volunteer Fire Department

CALL TO ORDER
The Haworth Volunteer Fire Department held a regular monthly business meeting on Tuesday, August 1, 2000 at the Haworth Fire Station.  Meeting was called to order at 6:47 p.m. by Chief Middleton.  Members present were: Storey, Middleton, Batson, Teel, Marsh, Boyd, Owens, Hall, Donaldson, White and Lacy.

MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING
Minutes of the previous meeting were read.  Owens moved to accept.  Batson seconded.  All members in favor.  Minutes approved.

FINANCIAL REPORT
Storey reported that the Town clerk was unable to provide financial report.

ELECTION OF LOCAL PENSION BOARD MEMBERS
Middleton opened the floor for nominations for members of the local pension and retirement board.  Batson nominated Owens for Seat #1 (1 year term), Marsh for Seat #2 (2 year term), and Donaldson for Seat #3 (3 year term).  Teel seconded.  No other nominations offered.  Owens, Marsh, and Donaldson elected by acclamation.

INACTIVE FIREFIGHTERS
Members discussed inactive members: Smith and Lacy.  Middleton reported that he had visited with Lacy about his inactivity.  Lacy stated that he wanted to stay on the department and would become more active.

Storey reported that Smith requested that he be allowed to vest his retirement benefit.  Storey also reported that he had spoken with the Pension & Retirement System and learned that, in order to vest benefits, the firefighter must have a minimum of 10 years of accrued time in the system, but Smith only has 9 years, 9 months, and 9 days at this time.  Hall moved to allow Smith to stay on the department until he had completed the required 10 years.  Donaldson seconded.  All members in favor.  Motion carried.

OLD BUSINESS
Middleton reported that Truck-3 needs new brake pads and possibly a controller.

Middleton also reminded everybody of the benefit bean dinner that will be held on Saturday August 5th from 4 until 7 pm.  Proceeds of the benefit will be used to install a regulation fire hydrant in Redland and to purchase equipment for the pumper at the Redland Substation.

NEW BUSINESS
A Storm Spotter Course will be held on December 5th at 6:00 pm at the Fire Station.

Batson moved to adjourn.  Owens seconded.  Meeting adjourned at 7:16 p.m.
